Clinton Massie Repeats State Title!!
The SCOL Champion Clinton Massie Falcons repeated as the Division 4 state football champions after beating the Youngstown Mooney Cardinals 27-21, Friday, at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in Massillon, Ohio.

The Falcons outscored Mooney 13-0 in the second half to rebound from a 21-14 deficit at the half.

Bayle Wolfe scored three times and rushed for 172 yards on 33 carries, while his brother, Chayse Wolfe, had 20 carries, 91 yards, and a TD. Massie had 268 total yards in the contest.

Mooney took the opening kick off and scored with about 2 1/2 minutes in the contest on a 25-yard run by C.J. Amill. Zac Kennedy made it 7-0. Later on, the Falcons tied the contest at the 2:17 mark on Wolfe's 1st of three scores on an 8-yard run, and Callum Jones's PAT tied the contest at seven each.

Mooney quickly took a 14-7 lead on the first play after the kickoff with a 68 yard TD run by Mark Handel and a Kennedy PAT with 1:55 left in the first quarter.

The Falcons tied the contest in the second period after a 20-yard Chayse Wolfe TD run and Jones PAT.

Later in the quarter, Clinton Massie fumbled the ball at their 39 yard line, and Mooney recovered and took the lead again on a 13 yard TD run by Handel and a Kennedy PAT.

The second half started off with the Wolfe brothers carrying the ball on a 12-play drive that was capped off by a Bayle Wolfe (8 carries on the drive) 1-yard TD and Jones PAT that tied the game at 21 each.

Both teams battled back and forth with neither able to get a long drive going. Then, with about seven minutes left in the contest, a bad Mooney punt helped put Clinton Massie in excellent position at the Mooney 39 yard line. After several running plays, Massie was on a 4th down play at the Mooney 20 yard line when the Cardinals were called for pass interference as Hunter Fentress was trying to hit Dylan Rose on a play.

The penalty gave Massie the ball inside the 10 yard line, and, two plays later, Bayle Wolfe scored from three yards out. A rare Callum Jones miss on the PAT at 1:10 left in the game made it 27-21.

Mooney, who doesn't pass much, then had to go to the airwaves, and Jarred Halley intercepted a Cardinals pass with 30 seconds left, and the Falcons ran the clock out to capture their second straight title.

(14-1) Clinton Massie has now won 29 of their 30 games during their back-to-back championship run. Mooney finished this season at (10-5) overall.
